This 1-hour session will outline ways of understanding and tackling workplace under-representation. The seminar will include understanding what is meant by ‘representation’, the importance of having a representative workforce as well as explaining the provisions for using Positive Action as it is defined in the Equality Act 2010. The session will allow you the opportunity to put forward any specific questions you may have on how best to tackle under-representation in your organisation.

Workshop Overview:

This interactive 1-hour workshop is intended to give members the opportunity to learn about tackling workforce under-representation using the provisions outlined in the Equality Act.. Participants will learn:
  • How to understand under-representation in different contexts and the evidence required to use the Positive Action provisions outlined within the Equality Act 2010
  • Why Positive Action is not the same as Positive Discrimination
  • The difference between pre (s.158) and post (s.159) application Positive Action
  • How and when to use the tie-break scenario, including an overview of what is meant by the “of equal merit” provisions within the Act. We will use real life case studies to explore where organisations may be at risk of getting this wrong.
